I’m the artistic director of the company and I’m not looking for someone experienced in dance, but willing to learn and to commit.

  9. Hi there
I have a few questions about the pop dance classes
    1. Can my 12yr old daughter attend them ?
    2. Is there some type of auditions to get in
    3. Is Pop dance hip/hop
    4. How much does it cost
    5. When do u think my child can start these hip / hop dance lessons
    6. Will she still b a good dancer even tho she is not flexible and can’t do any tricks
And last but certainly not least
Where do u attend these hip/hop classes

    Thank u
    ~ heba

    • Hi Heba,

      Thanks for your message.
      Answering your questions:
Yes, your daughter could join Pop dance classes though I’m not sure yet if this class will go ahead (it depends on numbers), but there’s a possibility…
There’s no audition to join this class. It costs 90euros per term (10 classes) and I have plans to start it in September @ Portlaoise Leisure Centre.
Pop dance is not Hip hop. Please watch this Youtube video for clarity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJjALhRi0o8&list=WL&index=10
In relation to the future of your daughter as a dancer, it’s not all up to flexibility. I believe that to be a good dancer you need to be passionate, have discipline, dedication and good attitude. Flexibility is a bonus, but not what can make her a good dancer.

  17. Hi there,

No, the class is contemporary dance.
    Here’s the description of it:
Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a reaction against the rigid techniques of ballet. It can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. Contemporary seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body, and is therefore safe and accessible for beginners. At the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance technique allows experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement.

  18. I’m 16 and would love to do jazz and contemporay but have no experience. Could I still join classes and how much are they ?

    • Hi Shannon.
      Thank you for your message.
You don’t need experience to join the Adult contemporary dance classes or Laois Youth Dance Ensemble.
Adult dance classes might resume Friday, 16th of January, 8:30pm. It costs 80.00 per term.

Laois Youth Dance Ensemble audition will be on 17th of January. As mentioned before, you don’t need experience to join LYDE, however, you would need to commit to it. More info: https://laoisdanceacademy.com/laois-youth-dance-ensemble/

If you have any further questions, please let me know.
      Regards,
      Erica.
